Scouts awarded at court of honour

Any time the majority of people think about Boy Scouts the United States of America they envision outdoor camping, tying knots, and generally they visualize merit badges.

Teenagers that join a Boy Scout troop can not wait until they're given their 1st merit badge, and quite a few of the latest members of Boy Scout Troop 417 don't need to wait any more. The troop, which is chartered to the Very first United Methodist Church in Park Hills, organised a Court of Recognition ceremony on Sept. 8th to present the individuals of the troop with merit badges, position progress patches, summertime camp patches and some further honors. At least fifty parents, grandparents and siblings gathered to enjoy the commemoration, among the many hosted all year long, as 16 Boy Scouts were recognized and awarded for their labors. There were sixty-two merit badges rewarded that evening. Some of the badges presented were those for camping, Cooking, Pioneering, Citizenship around the world, Communicating, Computers, Forestry, and Mammal Research, to mention just a couple.

Eleven of the Boy Scouts were furthermore acknowledged for their feats by receiving position advancement patches representing their the end of requirements; Zackary Aubuchon, Bobby Hambrick, Samuel Heimes, Will Lucy, Austin Northcutt, and Caleb Williford all received their Scout rank, Alek Barrington picked up First Class rank, Gage DeBlois collected Star rank, and Caleb Barry, Kwinton Burnett, and Chase DeBlois all collected Life rank. Caleb Barry was also acknowledged for his completion of the Mile Swim whilst attending Camp this past summer, a feat he's performed 3 summers consecutively. Adult Scout Leader John Barrington was also recognized for completion of the Mile Swim.

The ceremony was presided over by Scoutmaster Gene Bannister with Life Scouts Logan Comfort and Jacob Bannister presenting the triumphs. Also attending was guest speaker Houston Seaton, Petty Officer Third Class, who's training at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command located at the Naval Weapons Station, Charleston, South Carolina. Seaton is a 2013 graduate of Central High School and an Eagle Scout that was formerly a member of Cub Scout Pack 417. Seaton gave a talk about how being a Boy Scout set him for his armed service occupation.

Boy Scout Troop 417 hold meetings every single Monday evening at the 1st United Methodist Church on Taylor Avenue in Park Hills. Youth curious about signing up for Boy Scouts are asked to come out and learn a lot more or they may go online to BeAScout.org to find a Boy Scout Troop, Cub Scout Pack or Venturing Crew close to their home.
